To achieve each outcome a learner must demonstrate the ability to:

1. Explore international trade and the role of shipping

·        Analyse the reasons for international trade and need for shipping

·        Explore political and geographical features and phenomena that effect the shipping business

2. Investigate the role and structure of organisations within the shipping business

·        Explain shipping company ownership and management structures

·        Describe the sectors within the shipping business

·        Explain the function of owners, brokers and agents

3. Differentiate between the types of ships employed in the various shipping business sectors

·        Investigate the design and construction of ships

·        Describe key features of vessels designed for: dry trades, wet trades and specialist vessels

·        List the factors effecting the market for ships

4 Understand ship operation,
