If you have an interest in completing any of the above course credit combinations, we are happy to meet your aspirations.

We have a lot of experience of running this course in QCF mode and will be happy to offer the programme for one more year under the current QCF framework. Next year we will run the new NQF format which has examinations and assignments whereas the current programme is still assignments ONLY.

You will find full up-to-date details of this course on the Edexcel website http://qualifications.pearson.com/en/qualifications/btec-nationals/business-2010.html

Our college is small and specialist so by keeping classes small, we are able to focus on student centred learning. The advantage is that we can pick up the speed of learning which suits those like you who want to finish a programme in one year. It may be the case that you are the only student in class, in which case there will be less classroom hours and more tutorial support. There are different delivery modes one being contact time in class on Wednesdays and Thursday during the day and another being less contact time and more in the way of tutorial learning support by email to ensure quick feedback of assignment submissions. The flexibility of our tutors and their knowledge of Edexcel guidelines and understanding of business subjects will allow students the opportunity to complete the Extended Diploma in one year.

Assignments are the key assessment method and opportunities exist in each assignment to achieve the higher grades of Distinction, Merit and Pass. If a particular assignment does not meet the Pass criteria you will have the opportunity to re-submit.

Students will be assessed on their assignment submissions during the course. Grades are awarded by the college and approved by the BTEC External Verifier after a centre visit.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Students must be aged 18 years or over.
They must possess four GCSE's at grade C or above including English and Mathematics, or an equivalent qualification, or a BTEC first Diploma. Mature students (over 21 years of age) may be exempt from this requirement on grounds of experience.

DURATION OF COURSE

Extended Diploma (180 credits) - The course lasts one calender year starting in September and finishing by July/August/September the following year.
Diploma (120 credits) - The course lasts one academic year starting in September and finishing by June the following year.
90 Credit Diploma - The course lasts six months starting in September and finishing by March the following year.
60 Credit Subsidiary Diploma - The course lasts four to six months starting in September and finishing by March the following year or from January to May/July.

The aim is to develop a learning and assessment plan based on completing two assignments per month in order to complete the full set of 18 units for the Extended Diploma, or one assignment per month in regard to the Diploma (120 credits) and the 90 Credit Diploma. A pace of one assignment every tow months is acceptable for the 60 credit Subsidiary Diploma. The course is structured around formal classes, seminars, tutorials and individual tuition. In addition, students will be expected to undertake private study. Students will have to prepare at least two assignments per subject per term, plus two integrated assignments. This course is available in distance learning mode for independent learners who are unable to attend classes.
